Electional astrology is the branch that picks a moment to begin something. For a wedding date, the tradition comes down to a short list of conditions: Venus, the planet of love, should be moving forward; Mercury, which rules contracts and words, should too; the day should be clear of eclipses; and the Moon, which stands for the event itself, should be growing, well placed and busy rather than void.
Most lists of the best wedding dates online state these rules and then name a handful of days without showing the work, which is why they disagree with each other. Our finder scores every day against the same rules and shows each one, so you can see exactly why one Saturday beats another.
No wedding date passes every test, and a perfect one is not the goal. The aim is to avoid the few conditions astrologers agree are poor, and then to pick, among the days that remain, the one that suits your venue, your guests and your season. A wedding date that scores 80 on a Saturday you can book is better than a 95 on a Tuesday you cannot.
Venus retrograde is the one firm no. Every day under it is marked avoid, whatever else it has.
Mercury retrograde is said to garble words and paperwork, including vows and the marriage licence.
Eclipses are read as sudden turns. Days within three days of one lose heavily; the rest of eclipse season loses a little.
Between the new and the full Moon, the light is growing, and so, the tradition says, will the marriage.
Taurus and Cancer, where the Moon is exalted and at home, and Libra and Pisces, the signs of Venus, are favoured.
A void of course Moon is said to bring nothing to fruition, so the ceremony hours should be clear of it.
Three things push a day to the bottom of the list on their own: Venus retrograde, Mercury retrograde and the days around an eclipse. In 2027 there is no Venus retrograde at all, Mercury turns retrograde 3 times, and there are 5 eclipses.
The dates below are on the UTC clock; the finder above shows them in the time zone of your wedding.
The Moon carries most of the weight when you choose a wedding date, because it moves fast and stands for the event itself. Four things about it are scored, all over the ceremony hours from 10:00 to 22:00.
A waxing Moon gains the most points. The full Moon is festive but past growing; the dark days around the new Moon lose points.
Taurus and Cancer add 10, Libra and Pisces 8. Scorpio, the Moon's fall, and Capricorn, its detriment, take points away.
A wedding date with no void Moon in the ceremony hours gains a little; the more of those hours are void, the more it loses.
The Moon meeting Venus or Jupiter in a soft aspect during the day adds points; a hard aspect to Mars or Saturn takes them away.
These are the highest-scoring days of 2027 on the UTC clock. Times matter for the Moon's void and aspects, so a date can move a few points in your own time zone; the finder at the top of the page recalculates for it.
Of the 365 days in the year, 23 rate excellent and 98 good or better, while 142 are best avoided.
Read the list as a shortlist, not a ranking to obey. The difference between two wedding dates a few points apart is usually one Moon aspect or a few hours of void Moon, and that can change with your time zone. Open a date on the card above to see what earned its points before you book.

Saturday is the most-booked wedding day by far, and the sky does not care. In 2027, 17 of the 52 Saturdays rate good or excellent on the UTC clock, and one month has no good day at all.
The chart compares 2027 with 2028. 2027 has no Venus retrograde, and 17 Saturdays pass. In 2028, Venus is retrograde from May to June, its shadow runs from April to July, and only 6 Saturdays pass. February 2027 has no good day at all: Mercury is retrograde from 9 February to 3 March, and the month holds two eclipses.
If a Saturday matters more than the score, filter the finder to Saturdays and take the best one in your season, or look at the Friday before it: Friday is the day of Venus and gains a few points of its own.
The same pattern holds for most years: a Venus retrograde year has far fewer good Saturdays, and the months around Mercury retrograde and eclipse seasons are thin. If you have flexibility on the year, it is worth more than flexibility on the day.

89Every wedding date starts at 60. Each rule below adds or takes away points, and the total is capped between 0 and 100. Days with Venus retrograde are marked avoid regardless.
| Rule | Points |
|---|---|
| — | 60 |
| Venus retrograde | −45 |
| Venus in its shadow | −6 |
| Mercury retrograde | −20 |
| Mercury in its shadow | −4 |
| Within 3 days of an eclipse | −25 |
| 4 to 10 days from an eclipse | −8 |
| Waxing Moon | +14 |
| Full Moon | +4 |
| Dark Moon (around new) | −12 |
| Moon in Taurus or Cancer / Libra or Pisces | +10 / +8 |
| Moon in Scorpio / Capricorn | −10 / −8 |
| Moon not void 10:00–22:00 / void half the day or more | +6 / −14 |
| Moon in soft aspect to Venus or Jupiter (each, up to +12) | +7 |
| Moon in hard aspect to Mars or Saturn (each, down to −14) | −7 |
| Friday | +3 |
Excellent is 85 or more, good 72 to 84, fair 55 to 71, and anything lower is marked avoid.
The weights follow the order of importance in the tradition: Venus first, then Mercury and eclipses, then the Moon. They are our choice, set out here so you can weigh a rule differently if you disagree.
The score covers the sky alone. With Pro, the finder also checks your best candidate wedding dates against both partners' birth charts, adding up to 10 points for each partner when Venus or Jupiter touch the Sun, Moon, Venus, Ascendant or Descendant, and taking up to 10 away for hard aspects from Mars or Saturn.
Search the next twelve months or a whole year, and limit it to weekends or Saturdays if the venue needs it.
The Moon's void and aspects depend on the clock. Pick the zone of the venue, not where you live.
Open the top few wedding dates on the card. A day can score well and still carry one reason you care about more.
With Pro, the best candidates are checked against both partners' birth charts and re-ranked for the two of you.
On the UTC clock, the highest-scoring day of 2027 is Friday, December 10, 2027, at 93 out of 100: Waxing Moon, 90% lit: a time for things to grow; Moon in Taurus, one of the strongest signs for a wedding. A wedding in another time zone can shift by a few points; the finder above recalculates for yours.
Yes. 2027 has no Venus retrograde, the one condition that rules out weeks at a time, and 98 days rate good or better on the UTC clock.
Venus is not retrograde at any point in 2027. The nearest retrograde runs from May 10, 2028 to June 22, 2028.
You can, but most wedding astrology avoids it, because Mercury rules contracts, documents and spoken promises. The finder takes 20 points off every day of a Mercury retrograde rather than ruling it out, so an otherwise strong day can still rate fair.
It is acceptable and festive, but not the best. The tradition prefers a waxing Moon, growing toward full, so that the marriage grows with it. In our scoring a full Moon adds 4 points and a waxing Moon 14.
Taurus and Cancer, where the Moon is exalted and at home, followed by Libra and Pisces, the signs of Venus. Scorpio and Capricorn, where the Moon is weakest, are usually avoided.
Most astrologers avoid the days closest to an eclipse, which are read as sudden turns. The finder takes 25 points off within three days of one and 8 points off up to ten days away.
Both. The date sets Venus, Mercury, eclipses and the Moon's phase and sign; the hours decide whether the Moon is void and which aspects it makes. The finder scores the hours from 10:00 to 22:00 in your wedding's time zone.
