01What is a love astrology reading?
A love astrology reading looks at the parts of your birth chart that describe how you love, what you need from a partner and who you tend to choose, then at the planets moving across those points now.
Most people meet astrology through their Sun sign, and the Sun sign says little about love. The Sun is how you shine; it is not how you attach. A love astrology reading starts somewhere else: with Venus, the planet of attraction and affection, and with the Moon, Mars, the Descendant and the 7th house. Together these five describe a style of loving that is usually far more recognisable than anything your Sun sign horoscope has told you.

03Your Venus sign, and what it really describes
Your Venus sign is the single most useful fact for understanding how you love. Venus in a fire sign (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) loves with enthusiasm and wants excitement. Venus in an earth sign (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) shows love through reliability and the practical. In an air sign (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) love runs through conversation and ideas; in a water sign (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) it runs through feeling, closeness and loyalty.
Venus's house matters as much as its sign. Venus in the 5th house wants romance and play; in the 7th, commitment; in the 11th, love that grows out of friendship; in the 12th, love that stays private for a long time. Venus is never far from the Sun: at most about 48 degrees. So your Venus sign is always your Sun sign or one of the two signs on either side of it. If a reading has ever told you that your Venus sign was four signs away from your Sun, the calculation was wrong.

The Descendant is the point where the western horizon met the sky at the moment of your birth. It sits exactly opposite your Ascendant, the rising sign that describes how you meet the world, and it describes what you look for in the people you pair with.
Because it is the opposite of your own manner, the Descendant often describes a type that surprises you. A reserved, practical rising sign tends to be drawn to warm, expressive partners; a fast, independent one to people who slow down and weigh things. The planet that rules your Descendant sign adds the second half. If it sits in your 10th house, partners may come through work or public life; in your 9th, through travel or study; in your 3rd, close to home. That is the line under the partner card in the reading above.
05Timing: transits, Venus retrograde and your Venus return
Your birth chart does not change; the sky does. When a slow planet (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune or Pluto) reaches an exact angle to your Venus, Moon, Mars or 7th-house ruler, the themes of that point come forward for a while. Jupiter tends to open and enlarge, Saturn to test and make serious, Uranus to surprise, Neptune to soften or blur, Pluto to deepen.
The reading lists the exact date for each of these in the next six months. Slow transits build for weeks before the exact date and fade for weeks after it, and Saturn and the outer planets often make the same contact two or three times as they move back and forth. The date is the peak, not the whole story.
Two Venus events are personal to everyone. Venus turns retrograde for about six weeks every nineteen months, a stretch when old feelings resurface and review suits love better than a fresh start. And roughly once a year Venus returns to the exact place it held at your birth: your Venus return, the start of a new yearly cycle in what you want from love. 06What a love reading can and cannot tell you
A love astrology reading describes patterns and timing. It can show you why a certain kind of person keeps catching your eye, what you need to feel settled, and which months will put relationships in the foreground. It cannot tell you whether a particular person is right for you, and it does not predict events.
When you want to compare two people, you need both charts.
